A truly unique, individually hand-crafted work of art, each Cello handbag is skillfully and lovingly created from the finest materials. John Malotte dyes are hand mixed and hand rubbed into the leather. Designs are hand painted, gifting each bag with individual one-of-a-kind uniqueness. Each stitch is carefully hand-stitched, imbuing your Cello handbag with a shape, form, and personality all its own. No two bags are alike.

From the Heart

The heart of your bag is top quality vegetable tanned leather, inside and out. Nothing is hidden. At every step and every curve, John Malotte breathes life into your Cello bag with tender care and attention to detail. Once your work of art is completed, it is placed in a fine linen bag and housed in its own stunning box, hand-crafted from solid American cherry.

About the Studio

A passion for leather.

Working with leather is a dance. It's something where the finished product comes alive with each step. The dyes of the design are painted, and the custom-mixed base colors are hand-rubbed into the leather, leaving a color with real depth.

Conditioning the leather brings that depth further out — colors begin to pop. The complementary, or sometimes contrasting, edge and thread colors add character to the whole. Assembly and stitching give shape to the living panels, and a new creation is born.

The process demands a patience that, when allowed to unfold on its own, brings forth something better than I could have imagined. Leather gives back more than I put into it. It feels like breathing life into it. This is the passion behind every bag.
